Legacy ORG.ZA Clean-Up Project

Legacy ORG.ZA Clean-Up Project

The ORG.ZA second-level domain is the second most used within the .ZA country-code, (after CO.ZA). Unlike CO.ZA, the majority of ORG.ZA registrants have not been required to renew their domain names annually. A consequence of this is that the records for many ORG.ZA domains are out-of-date, and many registered ORG.ZA domains are non-functional. The Legacy ORG.ZA Clean-Up Project intends to clean-up the ORG.ZA namespace through a process of migrating domains from the default registrar to accredited registrars.

The ZA Domain Name Authority (ZADNA), in conjunction with the ZACR, has set certain timelines and a definitive cut-off date when non-transferred domain names will be deleted from the registry.

In summary, the process is separated into 2 (two) phases, namely, suspension phase (1 September 2016) and deletion phase (1 September 2017). Domain names that are suspended will not be functional, after a deletion phase the domain names deleted will be available for new registration on a first-come first-serve basis.

NOTE: THE ZA DOMAIN NAME AUTHORITY (ZADNA) MAY REVIEW THE PROJECT PLAN AND TIMELINES OF EXECUTION, IF IT IDENTIFIES THAT SUCH A REVIEW IS NECESSARY.
