Second meeting of the .za Domain Name Authority
The .za Domain Name Authority Board is now focused on establishing operations. The Board is working through finance, technical and management sub-committees in accordance with the Articles of Association.

It convened its first face to face meeting in February 2004, with regular meetings set for the rest of the year. The nine-member Board is chaired by Dr Hasmukh Gajjar and the other members are Ms Preeta Bhagattjee, Ms Xoliswa Kakana, Ms Nomvula Mbangela, Mr Sonwabo Eddie Funde, Mr Richard Heath, Mr Alan Levin, Mr Michael Silber and Mr Victor Wilson.

The Board has appointed Ms Preeta Bhagattjee as the Vice Chairperson and Mr Alan Levin as the Treasurer.

The Board has already held a meeting with the Minister of Communications, Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, as well as a two day workshop, where issues of Governance, ICANN, Domain Name Management and international best practices were reviewed. The current administrator, Mike Lawrie, participated in the workshop and encouraged the Board to speedily conclude the re-delegation of the .za top level domain.

The .za Domain Name Authority was established in terms of Chapter X of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (25 of 2002). The objectives of the Authority are to administer the .za top level domain of the Internet.
